Heading out

I apologize for neglecting you. I appreciate that many of you have returned here to find nothing new for weeks now and I promise to do better. We've been incredibly busy dealing with lots of things that aren't always fun—a flood in the bathroom, a week when everything went wrong, etc.—but we're still here and getting ready to take off tomorrow for a six-to-eight-week trip in la Casita.

It's been several years since we did this and our organization leaves much to be desired. But despite mishaps I think we're going to make our Sunday departure date and confess I am amazed. We'll be visiting several favorite national parks, including Death Valley, Canyonlands, Arches, Yellowstone and Tetons, and stopping off at other favorite spots along the way. We'll also be visiting friends we haven't seen in some time and we are looking forward to that.

ZoĆ© has gone to stay with Laurel in Monmouth, which is where she stayed when we spent nine weeks in Costa Rica three years ago. She'll be royally spoiled when we get her back.

If all our electronics work as planned I'll be able to post photos here as we go, so do check in occasionally.

And for those curious about my novel in progress, yes, I'm still working on it. In fact, I'm up to 100 pages, a little over 40,000 words. Since I'm never sure what happens next (and don't even have a title) I can't say for sure how much longer it will be, but I'm guessing I'm about half way there. It's definitely a rough draft but I'm enjoying the process immensely and am hoping to continue to make progress as we travel—though that may be difficult with so much else to see and do.

And if you haven't read Camping with the Communists, please check it out! The first chapter or two can be found on my website, and of course you can order it there.

Cheers!
Karen
